Re: 2025 - Study Group!

Huh ty for sharing @Oaktree - almost seems like there's protections for society but not for an individual's right to have access to it.... Wild.

I agree! Cos like imagine if it was a gov't sancionted regulation that every x amount of urban space must have access to a community centre, a park, a shared garden, shared child care facilities, play areas for adults as well as children, and of course a library!! That's how I imagine we could make it a 'right'  for everyone to access community!

I was checking out the Consumer, Survivor and Ex-Patient movement today. It makes me want to be an activist again. I was that kid that went on Peace marches in the 80´s. I have been held in psychiatric hospitals against my will and forcibly medicated. It would be great if this could be avoided. In my case I am not sure how? As sometimes it was in my best interest to keep me in hospital for my own safety. It’s a difficult problem…

Re: 2025 - Study Group!

I agree @Oaktree . When I read about it, it really shows how far we have come as a society. From defining mental health as a religious statement, so seeing it as a medical issue and then now seeing the holistic person - they are the not sum of their illness.

Advocacy work is amazing, but you need to be passionate about it.

I just watched a really interesting webinar about diversity and human rights. It really made me think about the fact that there are so many different voices in Lived Experience. For me, I had a mixed experience. I had some wonderful Nurses but also some crap ones and I didn’t enjoy the treatment. I felt trapped and not in control of choices about medications. I would put myself in the activist camp although I think there should be increased access for those who need the care and treatment. Find the webinar here;

Also here is the paper to read by Indigo Daya and others that this webinar is based on also by Indigo Daya.

Re: 2025 - Study Group!

On the train, on way home from Tafe. Today we started self advocacy and workplace health and safety. I really liked the lecturer for WHS. He seems like a fun guy. Seems we are going to have an evacuation at some point. I made sure that I knew where the evacuation muster point was. So that I am prepared. Was a good day. Spoke to one of my peers and he talked about being as on top of his work as me. I told him that we are all different and he didn’t have to feel pressure to do things my way. I spent the first 3 days after tafe getting on top of the work so I could have a couple of free days prior to Tafe. It kind of gave me a built in safety time for doing anything extra that might have been needed. Anyway I am really enjoying Tafe so far
