Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Hello!

I've worked as a mental health peer worker for Metro South Health, a geographical division of Queensland Health, in Brisbane from 2020 to 2024. I worked in an outpatient clinic team that focused on suicide prevention, a residential rehabilitation facility called a Community Care Unit (CCU), and a hospital psychiatric ward.

In July this year I resigned in order to have more time to help my Mum care for my Dad, who has had some mobility constraints, and to focus on my psychology studies. I might return to peer work during the Honours stage of my studies - I might do that component of the program part-time, which would give me the time to do some peer work.  I'd like to become a Clinical Psychologist eventually. I've enjoyed my peer work roles, especially in the CCU, where I had the chance to help people over a longer time frame and to see their progress.

hey there @Quickbeam it's lovely to e-meet you!

i've studied a bit of psych and thinking of doing masters of clinical psych in the future too 😊

you mentioned having some experience in the mental health peer work realm, perhaps you'd be interested in sharing a bit about how you got there in this thread: Are You Thinking of Peer Work? Have your questions... - SANE Forums - no pressure at all though!

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Thank you @Ru-bee @for the kind welcome ☺️

I came to the forums as I don’t have much of a support system in place and I’m looking to connect with people who understand complex mental health.
I have late-diagnosed AuDHD, major depression and anxiety and am also healing trauma from being raised in a narcissistic family dynamic.
Luckily my partner is amazing and we have two beautiful, smart, kind, funny kids. My focus is healing and protecting them to ensure they don’t suffer due to my family nor my issues.

On the positive side I love music, art, travelling and wickedly funny people. I’m a staunch ally and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ family, First Nations people, people living with disabilities and many others.

Looking forward to connecting with people here and learning from them.

☺️💜

Re: Newbie's Social Club - Come make some friends!

Howdy! 🤠

I’m originally from Texas, but have moved to Gadigal land a little over two years ago.
I struggle with MH, specifically GAD and treatment resistant depression. I’m investigating the possibility of comorbidities and my psychiatrist thinks there may be an aspect of ADD or narcolepsy at play as well.
I am seeking to build a support system and healthier habits to continue my journey and improve my well-being. although lately everything has felt like a bit of a struggle and I’m working on finding another job after I was let go from a hospo gig because of my anxiety (really can’t blame them there, I haven’t been managing well at all)

I am always happy to chat about fiber art, animals, and sci-fi 💜

looking forward to making new friends here, and if anyone has suggestions on job boards I should check out, let me know 💕
